This program enables selected full-time university students to gain
a greater understanding and appreciation of
the way of life in the United
States through temporary employment.
Participants are able to obtain personal insight into
United
States culture and to improve their English
language skills. The work
component of this program does not necessarily cover the students’
expenses; students should be informed that this is a cultural
exchange program, not a way of making money for the summer.
The program also provides them with the opportunity to work
alongside their American peers, make new friends and travel to other
parts of United
States after completing the job assignments.
In order to better
monitor and implement all decisions regarding selection and
placement of International Students, we welcome the participation
and collaboration of all individuals and institutions engaged in
international education and exchange, including schools, colleges
and universities, embassies, international organizations,
international governments, businesses and associations.
The local and overseas
affiliates of WWCE are similar in their quest for making it a better
world. Only after determining mutual purpose and procedures, does
WWCE contract exclusively with an affiliate organization. WWCE
chooses to work with the best exchange organization in a given
country after thoroughly investigating the reputation and personnel
of several organizations in that country. We require that all the
employees, officers, agents and third parties involved in the
administration of the exchange visitor program are adequately
qualified, appropriately trained, and comply with the Exchange
Visitor Program regulations. Communication between the affiliates is
constant and together we make a 24-hour global network available to
our participants.
Participants are bona fide international students
currently enrolled in post secondary study programs in their home
countries. These students are screened for appropriate English
language fluency, ability to function in a work environment and
motivation to get maximum benefit from the Work & Travel
USA Program.
The Department of State
regulations prohibit the placement of program participants as
domestic help in U.S. households or in positions requiring them to
invest their own money for inventory, such as door-to-door sales.
Most participants typically work in non-skilled service positions at
resorts, hotels, restaurants, and amusement parks. Summer
internships in US businesses and other organizations (i.e.,
architecture, science research, graphic art/publishing and other
media communication, advertising, computer software and electronics,
and legal offices, etc.) are allowed. However, the term of the
internship may not exceed the four-month program duration, and must
be completed during the student's summer vacation.
